When Jesus Calls…
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.2 He was with God in the beginning.3 Through Him all things were made; without Him nothing was made that has been made. 4 In Him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. John 1:1-5 NASB
Jesus Christ called.
You believe He is the Son of God who died, was buried and rose again. You call Him Lord and Savior, and you want this new life He promised to all who come to Him.
When Jesus called them, the disciples did not hesitate , but left everything behind to follow Him. (see Mark 10:28) To follow Jesus, we may have to leave something behind.
When Jesus called Matthew, this tax collector immediately got up, left his lucrative career behind and followed the Lord.
Peter and Andrew were casting their nets in the sea to catch fish, when Jesus called them. He told them to follo Him and He would make them fishers of men. Immediately, they left their nets and followed Him. (See Matthew 4:18–20)
God wants to have a personal relationship with us. To have a personal relationship with God, we can have no other gods or idols before Him.
To the rich, young man asking Jesus how he might have eternal life, Jesus answered “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow Me.” When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth. Matthew 19:21-22 NIV
Jesus left behind everything for us.
Who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men.8 Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Philippians 2:6-8 NASB
To be called a friend of God, what an incredible privilege and honor!
Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends. 14 You are my friends if you do what I command.
John 15:13-14 NIV
Jesus commands us to go make followers of all people in the world.
Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely, I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28:18-20 NIV
Matthew chapter five, Christ’s longest recorded sermon describes in the Beatitudes how to live a consecrated life that pleases God, and blesses the believer with specific promises.
After Jesus laid out the God’s plan for Peter’s life, he wanted to know about God’s plan for John. In response to Peter inquiry about John's future, Jesus said to him, “If I want him to remain until I come, what is that to you? You follow Me! John 21:22 NASB
When Jesus calls us to follow Him, it's not for us to compare, judge or question His calling for another's life. God has a plan unique for each one of us. He has given each one of us gifts and talents to develop and use in fulfilling that plan. (Romans12: 1-10)

Who is Jesus?
A: He is all God and all man.
His divinity:
Jesus said to them, Jesus said to them, “I assure you: Before Abraham was, I am.”John 8:58 (HSCB)
Paul the apostle wrote, He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist. And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence. For it pleased the Father that in Him all the fullness should dwell, Colossians 1:15-19 (NKJV)
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being. In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men. John1:1-4 (NASB)
And He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Matt 16:16, Mark 8:29, 1John 6:69, Luke 9:20 (NKJV)
Thomas answered and said to Him, “My Lord and my God!” John 20:28 (NKJV)
For you know that you were redeemed from your empty way of life inherited from the fathers, not with perishable things like silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without defect or blemish. He was chosen before the foundation of the world but was revealed at the end of the times for you who through Him are believers in God, who raised Him from the dead and gave Him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God.1Peter 1:18-21 (HCSB)
His humanity:
And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise His heel.” Genesis 3:15 (NKJV)
And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1:14, Hebrews 2:9-18 (NKJV)
But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, for the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, that He, by the grace of God, might taste death for everyone. For it was fitting for Him, for whom are all things and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings. For both He who sanctifies and those who are being sanctified are all of one, for which reason He is not ashamed to call them brethren, saying:“I will declare Your name to My brethren; In the midst of the assembly I will sing praise to You.” And again:“I will put My trust in Him.”And again: “Here am I and the children whom God has given Me.” Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, and release those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage. For indeed He does not give aid to angels, but He does give aid to the seed of Abraham. Therefore, in all things He had to be made like His brethren, that He might be a merciful and faithful High Priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. For in that He Himself has suffered, being tempted, He is able to aid those who are tempted. Hebrews 2:9-18 (NKJV)
Christ, our Mediator
For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time Timothy 2:5-6 (NKJV)
Our Mediator takes on God’s image
who, though He was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Philippians 2:6-8 (ESV)
Our Mediator takes on man’s likeness
But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, Galatians 4:4 (NKJV)
how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, purify our conscience from dead works to serve the living God.Therefore He is the mediator of a new covenant, so that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance, since a death has occurred that redeems them from the transgressions committed under the first covenant.
